The Gregoire’s Company History (Cummings Auto Plaza)

In 1939, Albert Gregoire opened his first garage in Embrun, Ontario, offering vehicle maintenance and repair, as well as selling used parts and used reconditioned cars. Unfortunately the garage which had no insurance coverage was destroyed by fire a few years later.

In 1950, he re-established his business training his son Raymond, who later attended the Toronto Institute of Trades and graduated in 1954 with an “A” technician licence. In 1957, Albert and his son were approached by General Motors of Canada Limited to open a new car dealership.  They then built a new garage facility and started business in May 1958 under the name of A & R Gregoire Automobile Limited, selling Chevrolets, Oldsmobiles and GM trucks.  In 1978 they sold as many as 2,000 new and used cars and trucks, gradually building their staff to 69 employees.

Unfortunately with the recession of 1980  interest rates climbed up to 23% forcing them to close their doors as a result of the banking laws existing at the time. 

In 1982, Raymond opened a Ford dealership in another location in Embrun (his father having passed away in 1977). Business went really well for some years, but in 1990 because of health reasons, he sold it to a group of investors.

Now, Raymond and his son Luc run a used car business in Ottawa.  Their facility services vehicles and they specialize in financing customers who are denied credit at their banks.  They operate under a Guaranteed Credit Approval System, and for that purpose they attended special training courses at CAC University in Detroit.  Their program is approved by the Credit Bureau.

Raymond and Luc Gregoire form a third generation of family business, giving their customers a total of 65 years of experience.
